No. 22

"It is absurd to have a rule about what one should read and what one shouldn't.
More than half of modern culture depends on what one shouldn't read."

When I had to face, the very bitter lesson that everyone who wants to write has got to learn, was that a thing may in itself be the finest piece of writing one has ever done, and yet have absolutely no place in the manuscript one hopes to publish.
THOMAS WOLFE

From The Writer's Quotation Book, Third Edition, Edited by James Charlton.

Hedley Flaubert, Jr. writes from Capote Corners: My complaint concerns some of the places where our state and federal government have not done a very good job in inspection and enforcement of laws designed to aid those of our citizens who may need a hand getting around Capote Corners. We, I mean they, need a hand when it comes to strip clubs without wheelchair ramps, handicapped parking, and automatic doors; as well as handicap accessible rest rooms, and diaper changing facilities. After personally inspecting each of the ten clubs in this area including one nude dancing club, I can say this situation is disgraceful and should be looked into by our concerned citizens anxious to bring equality of opportunity to those who need a hand.

Love those literary quotes, especially the 'open a vein' one!

Yes indeed, the cynics might just be right. Then again, maybe I'm just being cynical.
Peaceful and positive wishes to you and your loved ones.
Gary.

When I read No. 8, I looked over at my cats because I expected them to be getting pad and paper - lol! What you write is so true!

I loved the writing quotes - especially the Thomas Wolfe one. Gosh, but that one is really true!

Hope you and Helen are both well and looking forward to a lovely weekend!

"Nonsense is the end result of all sense." That's the phrase that stood out for me today. That and the Frogmore Flyers! I tip my hat to you, sir. :)

There actually is a Frogmore. A little fishing village on the Carolina coast; it is all those sleepy little fishing villages and marsh grass tidal flats, and tourist-grabbing, end-of- the- line places rolled into one. Quaint , but you wouldn't want to be forced to spend a weekend there. Yes. Nothing is more refreshing to the senses than nonsense; particularly when you know the person, or politician, is piling it up as deeply as possible. Back atcha with the topper.

Fran: I haven't found it quite like opening a vein...more like opening a bottle of screw-top wine!

Talon: We had a very large orange, long-haired, tabby who deigned to eat and lounge around our house for 14 years...so, I feel I know the little demons pretty well.

Gary: I am reminded that Lily Tomlin in her comedy stage show in 1985 said, " No matter how cynical you become, it's never enough to keep up." Have a great week.
