"Choose an author as you choose a friend"
EARL OF ROSCOMMON (1633?-1685)

NOTE: Recently a reader e-mailed me requesting a copy of the beautiful Victorian etching of the cat and books shown above. I have tried to reach her with a copy of it several times and each time it is returned by Yahoo with the note that no such account exists. If you will please get back with me I will be happy to try again. Count Sneaky.

1. Show me the rule that politics
...has to make sense.
2. It's not who you's
 who you know, that knows.
3. Turning trifles into truffles an art form.
4. Ignorance is no excuse...
but it beats whatever is in
 second place.
5. You are what you eat...
You are a giant pickle.
6. Genius simplifies...ordinary
minds complicate things.

7. Inner beauty trumps outer the game of life.
8. Courtesy is the key to most
hearts and doors.

9. The rate of interest ... makes
love a great investment.
10. From a fool's lips to yours...
Do not not leap.

PLACIDLY amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far
as possible without surrender, be on good terms with all
persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly. and listen
to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their
story. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither
be cynical at love-for in the face of all aridity and disenchant-
ment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel
of the years, gracefully surrendering the the things of youth.
Nuture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are
born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a  wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.  You are a child of the universe no less
than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And
whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is
unfolding as it should.  Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive him to be, and whatever your labors
and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace
with your soul.  With all its sham, drudgery and broken
dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

I love this. HK now has this election for the next Chief Executive (who is supposed to head the administration) by a 1,200 electorate committee most of them are willing to heed "voting advice" from the Central Government. After the Central Government showed no interest to voice a preference to either of the 2 pro-CG candidates (in other words, both are supposed to be "obedient"), it is time for a show of "dirty games" (have to day, stupidly amateurish by US standard). HK people label them as (stupid) pig pitting against (cunning) wolf.

And it doesn't make much sense since "7 million minus 1,200" citizens have no vote to cast!
